Q: Beagle/terrier?
I am taking home a 1 month old beagle/terrier mix on Tuesday! The shelter wasn’t sure what type of terrier, but I googled for information about this mix and didn’t find much. Can anyone tell me about their personality/special care needs please? (I’m a previous dog and cat owner)

A: what a lovely breed of dog you are getting.they are great dogs and very very intelligent.i have one with 8 years and he can open his own kennel when he wants to go out.they need alot of walking and loads of exercise which is very good for weight loss.but at four weeks old, i dont think you should be taking him home.a puppy should remain with his mother for 8 weeks.im suprised that the shelter are allowing you to take him at 4 weeks.you are going to be in for alot of sleepless nights.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!good luck with your new puppy.you will have great fun……………………..

Q: How do I get my Beagle/Terrier mix to quit jumping on us when we get home?
My dog has TONS of energy. I know most people say that but my dog really does. He gets sooooo excited when we come back home from anywhere. He jumps up and down over and over again. He jumps 4 ft in the air from a standing position, no problem! When I finally get in the fence I turn my back on him as he continues jumping but it doesn’t help until he calms down. That usually takes 5 minutes.

A: walk in the door backwards.
don’t even LOOK at him till he calms down. when he does, pat him and give him a cookie.

one thing that worked for me too is when the pup was too hyper, leave again. open and close the door and walk in and out until the desired result was reached. that takes some practice.

Clean your room and KEEP it clean.
Sweep the floor.
Do your homework on time.
Get good grades.
Don’t fight with your brothers and sisters.
Don’t talk back to adults.
Eat what your parents give you and don”t make any faces about it.
Remember to share.
Do research on taking care of a dog and what breed of dog you want.
Ask them nicely and don’t whine or beg when you talk about getting a new pet.

do they get to be as big as a standard poodle, golden retriver, or wat?

A: Because the dog is mixed between the two there is no way to tell until the dog is an adult. It can ether be the size of the JR or the size of the Beagle or somewhere in the middle there’s just no set answer.

Q: How do I stop my Jack Russell terrier/Beagle from chewing everything in sight?
I have a Jack Russell/Beagle that chews everything whenever she gets the chance. I’m firm with her & she obeys me perfectly when I’m around, but she will sneak away or tear things apart when I’m not there. Other family members aren’t as firm as I am, & I know that’s part of the problem. She chews shoe laces, whole boxes of tissues, the toilet paper, socks, dirty clothes from hamper, paper, dryer sheets, etc. She’s even started licking and gnawing into the drywall starting a hole in the wall.

She jumps up to get food from the counter or table. She would NEVER try this when I’m there, but when I leave the room or she’s in the care of others, she is unrestrained.

She also nips and bites playfully at my 9-yr-old son, biting his pant legs, etc.

I follow the advice of the Dog Whisperer, and it’s worked very well for me. I’ve been told J. Russells need strong-willed “pack leaders” and found that to be true.
She gets reasonable excercise too.
She gets walked daily, plays fetch up and down stairs and tug of war. I guess I can try more exercise though.

She has several chew toys and works on them as well. She has these very thick & tough tennis ball type things, but she gnaws the yellow fuzz off from them and sometimes chokes on it. Rawhide bones she consumes completely and then vomits them back up. She destroys and gags on tied rope toys. The Kong-type toys seem to work best I guess. She also tears up her nice expensive dog bed and blankets.

She is about 9 months old, so I know it started with teething. She even lost some teeth a couple of times playing tug of war. If it’s just that she’s so young, how long will it be before she outgrows it?

I’ve tried Bitter Apple, but she actually seems to LIKE it! Or at least it doesn’t deter her.

A: How old is she? When dogs start teething they chew on everything. Buy her some chew toys, and tell your family members they need to be more stern with her until she learns what she can and cannot chew on.

Q: Jack Russell Terrier/Beagle Mix How Big They Get?
I’m going to be getting a 6 Week Old “Jack Russell Terrier/Beagle” Mix Pup in two days and I wanted to know how tall they get? I know Beagles get 13-15 Inches and Jack Russell are just naturally small already, Do anyone have this mix or seen them..

A: i got my JACK A BEE at 6 weeks old. She is now almost a year and weighs about 20 lbs and stands about 14 inches. these are great dogs but extremely smart. i taught mine how to sit shake roll over and go outside to potty in about a week. dont listen to these other people about irresponsible breeding, if their parents had listened to that they wouldnt be here! these are really great dogs that need to be trained as they are very eager to learn and need to be taken out for a run. mine can out run me on a bike.

Q: How long for an 8yr old terrier/beagle mix to recover from Pnemonia?
I’ve been trying to adopt her from the pound, but first she had kennel cough, and then last Friday she was diagnosed with pnemonia. They said she is on meds and in isolation until the time is up and they will call me, but they won’t tell me how long.

A: They won’t tell you because she has a serious problem. They don’t want to get your hopes up. It can be a week, or even 2. She could also die from this depending upon her overall health and the care she is getting now. I don’t want to panic you but they should have told you this. I hope she gets better soon. Being that she is an adult dog gives her a much better chance of getting better. Good for you for adopting. Be proud of yourself. She will need a lot of TLC the first month after coming home. Keep exercise at a minimum for a while. Build her back up. Lots of good food and love.

Q: help with my 1yr old boston terrier beagle?

everytime i tell him down to get off the couch he gets down then he getts back up what do i do?

A: You should say firmly not yelling NO kinda loud but still not yelling everytime he gets back up. Then you should tell him to get down. Keep doing this until he gets the point and doesn’t get back up. Also reward him when he gets down. and stays down for more than 45 seconds. Then he’ll know that it is good to stay off the couch.

Q: My dog is shakinreally bad. He is a beagle terrier mix. He isnt acting like himself and was limping days ago
He doesnt appear to be in pain, he just is not very responsive and when i let him outside he just sits in the snow. I feel really bad for him and i really need to know what to do.

A: Well, generally a Boston Terrier male can average about 15 to 20 pounds, with a female around 12-15 pounds. With a Beagle, the breed is judged in two classes, 13″ or 15″.
I would think that your dog should mature to about 18 pounds (depending on how much you feed him) and about 16 inches from the nap of the neck to the base of the tail.
Since with these hybrids or “designer dogs” you have a hodge podge of both dogs. Bostons with their energy and Beagles with their love of life. Should be a lively little guy.
