Q: When do Beagles normally have puppies?
I’m looking to get a beagle puppy about the first of May. I want to get as young of a puppy as I can, I’m guessing about 6-8 weeks maybe? Do Beagles normally have puppies that will be ready within this time period? I really want to get one then because I will just be getting out of school and he/she may be ready for the following rabbit season if all goes well. Thanks for your time.

A: Normal gestation period is 63 days, +/= a couple of days.

Unlike deer and some other wild animals, dogs do not have a particular time of year for breeding. When a female comes into her estrus cycle, which depends on age, they can be bred and pups come two months later.

Q: At what age do beagles stop being puppies? Also, at what age do beagles stop growing?
I have a 7 month old male beagle. He is absolutely adorable!! The doctor told us he is the runt of the pack because he tears from his eye (birth defect) and is rather small. I was wondering at what do they stop growing and stop being considered puppies?

A: A beagle will be as tall as he’s going to get between 8 and 9 months, but will still do a bit of filling out. Officially, he won’t be a puppy once he’s 1 year old, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not still a puppy mentally!! A 1 year old dog isn’t mature yet – they’re in the “young adult” stage and have a lot of learning left to do.

Q: When breeding beagles, do you have to remove the male when the puppies are born?
We have bred our female and male puppy, but I’m not sure about one thing. Some people say, “Remove the male! He’ll kill the puppies!” Others say, “Beagles are a tame breed, nothing will happen to the puppies if you leave the daddy in.” What’s the right answer?

A: we ahve had beagles all my life and i am 48 years young. take the male away from the babys. he will kill them. they are not a tame breed. they are hunting dogs with kill the rabbit in mind.

Q: Should I get two Beagles puppies or One? If two from the same litter or separate? Male or Female?
I recently lost my Beagle Rot mix after 8 1/2 years to mouth cancer. I think I am ready to get another Beagle. I love the breed, and always wanted two but was in school and to busy to train the new one. I am done with school now and work. I work the typical 40 hours a week 8-430 and go home for lunch every day. I live in a house with a decent size fenced in back yard. Should I get two puppies or one? Should I get male or female? I have had male dogs my whole life but people are telling me that female beagles are better to train and are more compassionate.

Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

A: If I were going to get two pups at once, I would get one of each. It’s common for two females to have to “fight it out” and the same with two males. This way, there is no need to fight for dominance as they get older. And if you got two of the same sex, they may never fight…it’s just my opinion to avoid that as much as possible. :-)

Sounds like you have a good thing going…especially going home at lunch, that will be SO key in housetraining your pups. I say go for it! They don’t both need to be from the same litter…it would be cute to have siblings, but you can probably find two Beagle pups at a Beagle rescue…just a thought…good luck!!

A: No reputable working breeder is going to sell yo a pup at 6 weeks possibly not even 8 weeks. If you ARE looking for a hunting dog you need an older pup OR a started dog, honestly.

Dogs can give birth any time of the year. What dictates when a litter is born is when the bitch goes into season AND if a mating is planned on the season AND if that mating takes. I suggest you start trying to get in contact with breeders now, but don’t hold your breath. The better the quality the longer the wait in many cases

Q: What do Khaki beagles look like as puppies and when they are older?

A: Thats only a color and not even the proper color name, its not a new breed. Beagles comes in two sizes but thats it they don’t separate by color. The proper color name is lilac. Its a diluted color. All true hound colors are accepted in this breed.

Q: What’s the best method for house training puppies?
I have two Beagle puppies, and if you know anything about Beagles you know they are STUBBORN! I am totally against crate training; it has never worked for me in the past, instead my dogs wouldn’t act like normal dogs, like they weren’t affectionate or anything. So please, if you have any good tips that worked when training your own dog, let me know.

Also they are currently paper trained but i am tired of having to clean up after them and the smells!

A: Well, when I was training my beagle puppy, we put a bell on the door. When she went to the bathroom on the floor, we would scold her and then take her to the door. We would ring the bell and let her outside to let her know that’s where she needed to go. By doing this, she realized:
1. That she needed to go to the bathroom outside.
2. If she needed to go outside, she should ring the bell with her nose to let us know she needed to go to the bathroom.

A: i woudnt be worried sbout how many puppies thay have but to make sure that they are healthy. Since beagle are not sooo big they wont have to many but different beagles have a different amount. Good Luck!

A: Do lots of research on care and training. As for beagles specifically, remember that they tend to be more sensitive and less forgiving than most dogs. If you must give shots, bathe or do other things the dog doesn’t like-try your best to make it as pleasant and quick as possible OR let someone else besides family do it. A beagle will develop trust issues and won’t easily forget. (I had one beagle that I have few pictures of because she’d run and hide. If I had something in my hand she was not able to trust me because of the people who raised her.) Avoid punishments, and reward good behavior consistently.
They are very high energy and need outlets like lots of exercise and toys.
Beagles are very food oriented. Watch that it doesn’t overeat and get fat. This is good news for training, though. Find favorite snacks and use these only for training. Mine was small pieces of hot dog. She’d do just about anything for hot dog! Go to the library and borrow some books, videos, etc. You’ll learn a lot and enjoy the great photos.

Q: What challenges do you face living with beagles in your home?

A: We honestly don’t have many of your typical beagle problems. She’s not noisey, unless she’s playing. She chases the cats, but she just wants them to lick her, hah. She’s great offleash (much to our amazement) Never left our line of sight once, even with 15 other dogs trying to play. Of course she lives to eat, she is still a beagle. But she won’t steal food.

Her attention span is typical though, and she needs motivation to do what you want her to, otherwise she’s got better things to be doing.

However, she’s been incredibly timid from day one. The most random, abstract things scare her. Water. Sewage drains. The toilet flushing. Plastic bottles, etc.

She’s also incredibly aversive to change in her routine. She needs her crate and blankets, or she won’t sleep. We went away with her for a weekend, and she wouldn’t go to the bathroom once. We must’ve taken her on atleast 10 walks, and tied her up outside with us for 3+ hours, and she didn’t do anything once. She’s always been that way, if she’s not at home or camping she will NOT go to the bathroom.

Q: where can i find up-to-date advertisements online for beagle puppies?
I am really interested in getting a beagle from a puppy. Apart from e-pupz website, is there any other places to look to find breeders advertisements etc?

A: Contact your local breed club, don’t expect to just go out and get a puppy though as a GOOD breeder will have a long waiting list. Also do plenty of research on the breed as they are prone to being very hard to train.

I Got my Lab from a breeder with their own website and that was how I found her while I was researching the breed. I did however do alot of checks through our KC etc before I approached the breeder for more information, she did also have a waiting list for pups.

A: In the U.S., they cost upwards of $1000+. So in pounds that would be like 700 pounds or more.

Of course, that would be assuming they cost the same.

My point- the cost of the dog itself shouldn’t matter
