Q: Are beagle dogs good house pets?
I’ve been wanting an inside dog forever. Just couldn’t ever find the right breed to get. I’ve had many beagle dogs growing up. And my grandparents have breeded many too. Just looking for a great inside house dog. Any help?
A: I know two people who have Beagles as mainly inside dogs however they need a lot of playtime outside as they can become overweight extremely quickly. If you are not able to give it constant excersize and time outside to sniff around (as beagles need to do to feel stimulated) I would recommend a toy breed such as a Yorkie or a Maltese. Good luck searching!
Q: At what age do Beagle dogs start howling?
My puppy is 21 weeks and vocal with barking, but has not yet learned the beagle howl. Anyone know what age Beagles start howling?
A: All of the Beagles I have had started at different times. Some of them started at 9 or 10 weeks, some took a year. Just depends on the dog, but don’t force it, cause once they start, they don’t stop and can get a little annoying. Good luck and give your baby a smooch for me, I love Beagles.
Q: My dog (beagle) seems to whine/cry when he sees other dogs instead of barking? will it go away?
he’s a pretty big beagle, he’s just about to be a year old so i’m wondering if its just because he’s so young. i rarely ever hear him bark except for when he speaks (trick-wise). and when i take him out walking and they’re other dogs, he makes me sad cause he whines instead of barks… will this go away, if so, when? how can i make him bark like a dog more…
A: It just wants to play. Ignore it [though that's pretty mean]. If you want to RESOLVE this ‘issue’, get him some playmates. This does not mean that you should go out and adopt 3 more dogs. Find some neighbors or friends with dogs and organize sort of ‘play-dates’ for both your dog and the other dogs. It’ll do wonders, trust me.
Q: Does all beagle dogs always have to smell 24 hours?
I have beagle , but she always have to seem everything!
Don’t beagles’ nose never get tired?
Sorry I spell wrong seem= smell.
krennao = WOW, you say it mean way.
No, wonder she always find foods.
When she is outside and I cook at home she knew I am cooking!
krennao = Oh, okay I apology.
krennao = Believe it or not. I love that dog!!!!!
hotbeaglemama = You are telling the truth.
Boom Boom Boy = LOL , you got that right , it seem true.
A: LOL, of course
Beagles are bred for hunting and sometimes used for tracking lost or missing children. Beagles are my FAVORITE breed of dog! You should take advantage of her nose and teach her to bring you your TV remote or your keys when you misplace them
Q: What kind of trick can I teach my two dogs (a beagle and a lab) at the same time?
I think my dogs enjoy it more when they can do tricks together with each other.
What tricks do your *multiple* dogs know how to do together? and how did you teach them?
Thankyou!
A: We have taught ours to sit using only hand signals – at first we started using a treat to do it, but then we’d use it without the treat so that they knew to just do it. We did the same with lay.
We thought about adding roll over, but they are pretty big dogs, lol, so that’s a bit dangerous in the house.
Pick something simple to start with and then slowly increase the challenge. And don’t always use treats as a reward – love and praise go a long way.
Blessings
Q: How do i train my beagle to ignore other dogs when we go for a walk?
I have a beagle named Baby Jane (B.J. for short). When we go for walks she will walk perfectly by my side, but as soon as she hears a dog barking or if she sees a dog she will completely stop walking by my side and she will start getting jumpy and does not want to go anywhere at all. What can i do to make her completely ignore the other dogs?
A: Teach her the command “Leave it.” This is a very useful command that is easy to learn. Anything that has your dog’s attention will learned to be ignored and focused on you once this command is taught well enough.
To train my dog this command, I had her on a leash and was kneeling by her. I would drop a treat, and say leave it, and tug on her leash. Once she moves away from the treat or focuses her attention on you, give her another treat in your hand a throw a party, like they are the best dog in the world. Once you do this enough times, the dog will begin to understand that it needs its attention on you, so you will be able to drop a treat and the dog’s eyes will never leave yours.
Once you have taught the command with treats, try it with toys. Once the dog has learned that whenever you say leave it, you want their attention. Now. After you have succeeded with toys, try going for a walk. If your dog does not succeed with the leave it command for other dogs, go back to the basics and work your way up.
Another solution in addition to “leave it” is a pinch collar. I reccomend this to many training problems, and is available a most veterinarian offices. If you do not know, a pinch collar is a collar that will pinch her skin if she pulls away or if you want her to pay attention to you. It’s completely harmless, it feels just as if their mother’s teeth are gave a grasp on them. I have even tested it myself, if you put the collar around your wrist and tug, it’ll only leave marks such as a dog nip. Be sure you learn to use it beforehand, though. Good luck.

Q: Beagle owner–what other dogs will my almost 4 yr old dog get along with?
If my family were to get another dog, I would want to make sure it would be one that is compatible in temprament, gentleness, and size with my 25lb Beagle (male). I would want to get a dog that our beagle would have fun with. Any suggestions on what to get or what NOT to get?
A: Beagles are great dogs and are generally very friendly. How does your dog act around other dogs? When you pass other dogs on the street or go to parks where there are other dogs, does he show any signs of timidness, aggression, dominance or aloofness? What about food? Is your dog overly-protective of his food, or are you able to reach down and take his bowl away while he’s eating?
If not, I don’t think your beagle will have any trouble adjusting to a new dog. As you probably know, they are very playful and can probably have fun with everything. It’s not something that depends on breed though, it’s something that depends on the personality of both dogs.
Some breeders and shelters will allow you to bring your dog in to let him meet the new dog you’re getting before you take it home. In fact, some breeders even request that you do so, so that they know their puppy will not be the subject of jealousy, dominance or aggression. Call around and ask if they will let you do this.
In short, be sure to consider other things like spatial, grooming and exercise requirements before you get the other dog. I have seen beagles play with miniature schnauzers and labradors and even great danes.
Q: Do beagle dogs hunt for food alone or in packs?
I have to do a research on beagles for homework in spring break (now.)
A: Beagles are very much pack dogs. They don’t hunt to kill they hunt to flush out the prey. They are hopeless at killing their prey.
Q: How can I get my beagle to be nice to other dogs?
I really want my dog ( 9 year old male beagle) to be nice to other dogs. I have a lot of friends with dogs and we want to walk them together but mine always growls and tries to fight their dogs. He lived with another dog the first 4 years of his life so it isn’t that he hasn’t been around dogs enough…what can I do to make him be more friendly?
A: Beagles have a stronger pack instinct than almost any other breed, so that is not normal.
Q: What all needs to be taken care of while buying two dogs together & how much a beagle costs?
we are two friends really keen for a dog but gotta go work for 8 hrs min. and we cant leave the dog alone hence we are planning to hav two dogs to accompany each other…wanted to now what all needs to be taken care of for two dogs together…and what will a beagle cost in India?
A: in ireland you can buy a beagle for 250 up too 500euro.
you should think about getting the two dogs off the same litter.
myself and my cousin got our king charles in the same litter.
dont forget pay the same attention as you would to both of the dogs.
if you dont jealousy will happen, both will fight with each other.
but im sure you already realise that
good luck!
Q: Why is my beagle always jumping on other dogs?
My beagle just turned four months, and whenever he plays with other dogs, he tends to jump on them and try to be the dominant one. How do we train him to not do that? Any tips?
A: I don’t really know – maybe he’s just playing.
Q: I have a 12 mth male beagle who loves playing with other dogs and I want to get a small dog friend?
I don’t want to get another beagle plus the other dog as to get along with my cat who is 2yrs and the chickens. My beagle can get quiet ruff and as endless energy. I would love to get a small dog but don’t know what breed would be suited.
A: Hi,
Check out this list of small dogs who are dog-friendly. Breed is not the only factor that determines how dog-friendly your dog will be, proper socialization training as a puppy is essential.

Q: How big do Beagle dogs grow?
Can someone please tell me how big they grow.
A: They’re midsize, their heads may come to your knees when they’re standing and that’s it.
They’re great hunting and family dogs. I’ve never known a beagle that wasn’t friends with everything that he/she came into contact with.
Q: What is the hunting style of beagle dogs?
A: They run rabbits in a pack of two or three, but will also do it alone. They are scent hounds. They find a trail and bay as they follow it nose to the ground.
My goldens will go out through the brush with the neighbor’s beagles often. They just don’t have their speed or dexterity though.
Q: why are beagle hunting dogs so dumb? and have so many defects?
I know there cute and adorable doggies but it seems like every beagle we’ve adopted has a problem or defect and all 3 we own are pretty dumb, I took 2 of them deer hunting with me once and they chase a squirrel instead of the deer! is it just this batch or are all beagles dumb? just wondering, and is there a way to make them stop barking when someone walks by the house? spraying them with water doesn’t help… these are 3 annoying beagles any help?
A: I’m sorry to say this, but it is you who is “dumb” not the dog.
The dog was bred for long distance running hunting hares in a pack. A hare is one of the “rodent” family. They give voice whilst hunting so that the huntsman and the rest of the pack know where they are, and whether they are on a trail or not.
They will willingly hunt rabbits and other rodents that run (including squirrels!). They are dominated by their nose, and when on a trail, it can be difficult to get their attention.
A deer is NOT a rodent, there is no way a Beagle will “hunt” a deer. They hunt with their nose, not with their eyes.
They are intelligent dogs, but they have been bred for a purpose, barking (or baying) is part of that purpose.
Read up on the breed description and find out what sort of dog you have…
If you want to “hunt” deer, then you either need to get yourself a sight hound, a deer hound, or a lurcher (greyhound cross).
