Q: Boxer Dog training help?
How can I get my boxer to not be so jumpy when she greets people? To walk with out a leash. Not to get in trash?

A: Find a good training school and take some classes.

Q: What are some good ways of training a boxer puppy or dog?
My husband and me might be getting a boxer dog or puppy soon…i know thats the kind of dog he wants bad! been talking about it forever now lol…But im wanting to get good training first beause my daughter is only 3 years old and she screams sometimes and gets anwry! jumps alot and laughs like a normal 3 year old would do…i just want to make sure that the dog will not snap at her for being too loud! so can someone please give me good advice on how to raise a boxer dog? or give me sites if you have them…anything will help. thanks so much. :0)

A: educate yourself about the breed. Check out the boxer club of america and find a reputable breeder. Know how to find a good breeder, there should be guidelines on the clubs website. Adopting an older dog is a good option too.

Never leave a dog or puppy alone with kids. No matter what the breed, always supervise. Dogs are dogs and a lot of kids don’t know how to act around them. Your daughter is pretty young so maybe waiting until she is older is a good idea if your going for a puppy. Puppies go through teething and are very playful. Boxers are pretty energetic and easily excitable in general. Definately take your dog or puppy to obediance classes and continue to train throughout their lifetime.

Q: is it good to start training a boxer dog when he is 2 months old? thank you?

A: Yes it is a great age. The most important thing you can do for your puppy right now is to socialize him, let him get to know the world he lives in. Take him out often and to different places so he can see new things this way he will be a confident and stable dog. Training classes are good and will help you to learn how to train and when corrections are necessary and are also a great place for socialization.
Here is are a couple of good websites to visit: http://www.leerburg.com/dogtrainingebooks.htm

Good luck with your new puppy!!!
Keep training sessions short and fun 5 to 10 minutes at a time, a young puppy’s attention span is very short and they will get bored easily. Always end the session on a positive note and give lots of praise.

Q: What is the best way to train a 3yr old boxer dog not to jump at people?
The dog wat trained briefly in the past but still jumps at people?

A: This is a real easy one to cure. Anytime anyone comes in the house they should ignore the jumping totally, not even stroke or look at it, then walk through to another room. When the dog has calmed down they then go and say hello and stroke it. Your dog will very quickly learn that he gets no attention from jumping up.

You need to be consistent with this and so should all visitors who should be told beforehand.

You will probably only have to do this for about a week then problem solved!

This will work.

Best wishes.

A: Crate training is by far the best way to house train your dog. Google it.

Q: What kind of dog treat should i use for training with my boxer?
What kind of thing in the treat makes it good anyway?

A: One thing our trainer said to use is microwaved hotdogs, cut into little pieces. They smell better if they’ve been cooked. This is only to use for training purposes tho and not the every day treat.

Another one she suggested is to buy boneless chicken when it’s on sale and boil it with a little garlic. Then cut up small pieces for training.

Basically, you have to find something your dog REALLY likes… and this will vary from dog to dog. Another good idea is to make sure you don’t feed your dog right before a training session as he may not be as interested in the treats if he’s not got much of an appetite.

I also buy “Authority” liver treats at Petsmart and cut them into smaller pieces to use for training. My dog just loves the liver taste. But they come rather large, too large for training needs… my dog would be full after a short time of using them for reward.

Good Luck!

Q: How do I train my dog (boxer) to stay home at our farm?
He was bought from another owner from another city and is a adult dog. He keeps wanting to wander off (to explose I suppose). Because our farm is nestled in a semi-surburban area, there are busy roads and other houses to worry about.
I tie him up outside when he wanders off as a punushment, but I though I lost him the other day when he went missing a long way from home for more than a day.
I just want him to stay around our house like previous dogs we have had.

A: Make sure he’s neutered. Dogs will wonder when they aren’t.

Try getting a fence to keep him in , they have kennel cages also for dogs.

Keep a collar, with a contact phone if he happens to wonder away.

Q: is it necessary to train a boxer dog?
i will b buying a boxer dog in a few days from today..
so i want to know that is it necessary to get him trained?
how can i train him myself at home?
if not trained wat will b the consequences or problems faced…

A: You need a full and proven training program.

“SitStayFetch” is one of the most popular dog training products on the market written by Daniel Stevens, an experienced dog trainer, for every dog owners who know that the experience of training their dog has or will continue to establish a better relationship with their four legs friend.

First when I read SitStayFetch ebook, I was surprised at lots of information has been covered. The 186 page book is broken down into different sections step-by-step, each one dealing with a different aspect of dog ownership. SitStayFetch starts from a basic that dog owner should know. For instance, things to consider before adopting a dog, choosing the right breed, dealing with breeders, the secrets of dog training; and then moves on at common dog problems including biting and nipping, aggression, jealousy, digging holes, disobedience, separation anxiety, fights with other dogs, destructive behavior and even understanding how your dog thinks.

The core of SitStayFetch system is the communication between dog and owner. Daniel Stevens understands that most of common dog problems are from the lack of communication. Your dog simply doesn’t understand what you want. SitStayFetch demonstrates how dogs communicate, what are they thinking, how you can communicate with them effectively.

This simple technique helps in improving the relationship between you and your dog. And it also doesn’t just focus on one or two aspects of dog ownership. SitStayFetch deals with all common problem behaviors, step-by-step approach tells you exactly what to do and when to do it.

SitStayFetch works because of the tips and advice come directly from the author’s real-life experience. You also can sign up for free 6 days mini course which covers selected training methods and behavior fixing methods that are used in SitStayFetch ebook.

So if you want to have a good relationship with your dog and get rid of dog problems, I think SitStayFetch will definitely help you reach your goals.

Check my source, hope it helps. Good luck!

Q: Do you think a well trained Boxer would be a good apartment dog.?
My girlfriend and I are think about getting a Boxer when we move into our apartment. I want a nice sized dog, so small “FUFU” dogs are out of the question. There are only so many dogs we can have in this complex. I work at a animal shelter and I know first hand that shelter dogs are some of the greatest dogs. I would have the boxer trained with basic obedience and crate training. And I know that they need lots of exercise and I plan on walking it daily and taking it to the dog park. I just wanna make sure that I am making the right choice in getting a Boxer. I want it to be fair for it. I love Boxers and think they a excellent dogs. Do you think that a boxer would be a good apartment dog? If not, what would you suggest?

A: No they are to energetic for an apartment…they are excellent dogs but a boxer would be bored to death in an apartment.. you need to look into something else.. Get a mutt!! Save a life!! have you gone to the shelter? usually if you tell the workers there what you have to offer a dog and what you expect out of a dog they will help match you up with the perfect companion..Training would be great for a boxer but like I said.. it needs a large yard and it needs to use up its energy….GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SEARCH……… smile

EDIT: wait you work at a shelter?? then you should talk to your boss… or one of the kennel workers.. get a mixed breed dog… I own/am owned by 2 and I am so happy with them and they are so happy to be rescued….smile

Q: ok how can I enter my boxer dog in tv commercials or magazines?

A: try http://www.dogster.com they post competitions for pets to be used for advertising

Q: Any suggestions on training my Boxer around my two other dogs please?
I have two small dogs, fox terrier and a pug. I recently was given a Boxer puppy who is now 7mos old. I have been taking him to training classes because as some may know, they are very active dogs. However, when I take all three to the dog park in the evenings, he seems to forget all the training he was getting that day; and when we are alone at the training center, he is the perfect student..

How can I get him to not be goofy around my two little monsters and behave at the dog park? Suggestions please.. My trainer suggested leaving the two dogs home and walk them separate or I will have added duties to get my new puppy to behave. But, I would feel guilty paying more attention to my Boxer and vice versa.. Help.

A: While at the park with them all – continue with him the training he has been getting. The more it’s repeated, and followed through the better he’ll become. It just takes time for him to get into the routine.

Good luck Fox

Q: How to train a boxer dog tricks, oh and how not to bite?

A: You train a boxer the same as any other breed. You start with obedience classes. Find a good trainer, your vet can recommend one. It will cover biting as well. Once you’ve been trained how to educate your dog, then you’ll have the skills to teach it tricks.

Tricks are useless if your dog doesn’t obey basic commands.

Q: In the Chgo. area: free or inexpensive dog training for my 1 yr. boxer funds are low at this time.?
I have done the best I can but I need some help unfortunately I dont have any spare cash right now. He is really a good dog and listens most of the time but obviously im doing something wrong and I just want the best for him. He was found wandering the streets at about 6 months. I live in River Grove, IL but I can travel anywhere in Chicago, northwest side would be better but it is not necessary. Thanks for you help.

A: Have you checked out your local library? They have lots of books on dog training and behavior issues.

Q: What’s the best way to train a boxer?
I know that Boxer dogs are probably the hardest dog to train. Is it actually possible? If so, how would I go about training them? Please help! Thanks.

A: The Basics
SIT, COME, DOWN, STAY, HEEL.

SIT

Holding a treat in your left hand just above the pup’s nose, gently rest your right hand on pup’s rump.
Slowly move the treat in an upward motion while applying gentle pressure to the rump. ( you dont want to push hard because if you do the dog will sit every time someone touches him and this is not good for competitive obedience)
as soon as pup sits say in a very happy excited tone “GOOD SIT” and give the treat.
Repeat excersize 7x. then take a play break and move on to something elce.
very young pups should not train for more than a half hour each day
every time you put food bowl down or give a treat give the sit command, and wait for the sit. then once pup sits give treat or food down.
DO NOT move on to something new until pup has the new command down pat.

COME

walk away from pup about 10 feet to start. say pup’s name and “COME” in a happy voice. once pup comes praise it lavishly have a bit of a play and give it a treat.
Gradually increase the distance you walk away. and eventually once pup knows command only treat every 3rd come. tappering off until he comes every time with out treat using only praise.
this will take a few days to learn if you practice every day.

DOWN

Start with pup in sit. move hand with the treat between the pup’s front paws on the ground.
Say “DOWN” in firm but not loud voice.
pup might try and get treat without going down, dont let him have it until he downs.
praise in happy voice “GOOD DOWN”
repeat 7x

STAY

Start pup in down possition. say “STAY” in firm voice. walk to end of leash, backwards. if the pup moves say once only “AP” in a not pleased tone. go back do not say anything. put pup in down again repeat “STAY” walk backwards to end of leash.
pup does NOT get praise or treat untill he stays for 30 seconds, then a minute, then 5 minutes. move times up each week.
after he can do a 5 minute down/stay every time. move on to a sit/stay doing exactly what you did for down/stay.
Once on leash sit and down/stays are reliable for 5 minutes each. drop the leash and walk away from your pup, your back to the pup. about 10 feet away. wait 5 min. recall your dog. with dog sitting in front of you once he reaches you. treat and praise.

HEEL

Please do NOT train with a choke collar. i recomend martin gayles.
with dog on a short leash exactly beside you on your left side say “HEEL” if the dog starts to pull give a correction snap with leash on collar. and recomand “HEEL” the second your dog complies peaise with “GOOD HEEL” in happy voice. and continue to walk , correct, and praise for 30 minutes.

Allways end training sessions on a positive note. Never get angery with your pup for not responding to a command. Praise lavishly every time pup responds to a command.
NEVER hit your dog. NO reason is an acceptable reason for physicaly abusing your pup.
REMEMBER: you can allways call me for problems, you and your pup are allways welcome here to train with us free of charge for the dog’s life time.
