Q: bulldogs???
are bulldogs good to have?

A: I love English Bulldogs. I own one and she is great. They can have afew medical problems, and you can not let them get to hot. They will die quickly if they get to hot. They love everyone, and are great with kids. They do not make a good watch dog, because if you will pet them they would let them walk out of your house with everything you own including them. Ido think mine would protect her family, but only if she really thought we were in real trouble. They have wonderfull personalities, and are super cute though.

Q: Bulldogs…?
My boyfriend really wants a bulldog. How are they with other dogs? & Why are they soooo expensive?
*a french bulldog

A: Yes Bulldogs are cute and everyone wants one, the problem is once people get them and they see how expensive vet bills can run due to the health problems that come along with these dogs, most end up in rescue. Very rarely do you get a 100% problem free Bulldog assuming you are talking about the English. Now the American Bulldogs have fewer problems and the Frenchie also have few.
The reason the English are so expensive is because it cost and arm and leg to breed them and make sure they stay good and healthy until they go to their new home.
I’ve had English Bulldogs for about 10 yrs. now, my first ones were a rescue, Bonnie and Clyde. I had decided with my 3rd Bulldog that I wanted to breed. I had done research on the breeding process until I just knew I could do this hands down. I even helped a breeder (the mother died during c-section) with 10 puppies, bottle feeding and stimulating them to potty every two hours for two weeks. I had no idea that I might run into any problems breeding mine.
I lost 3 pups the same night and never added in any cost of emergency vets that my pups needed into the $2000.00 that I had saved to breed.
I ended up becoming so emotionally attached to my little ones that I kept three and sold one to my friend. So in the end I ended up with now 5 Bulldogs.
Oh by the way, some Bulldogs get along with other dogs, some try to test you and show their dominance towards other dogs.. I have two females who grew up together for 3 yrs. and now try to kill each other if near each other. They have gotten better with training for aggression.

Q: What is the normal asking price for breeding pure-breed English Bulldogs?
My husband wants to offer our male bulldog out as a stud, and in return, he wants the pick of the litter and $1,000.00. Is this too much? What is the going market for breeding bulldogs?

A: Stud fees are usually only $500 or pick of the litter. Even though Bulldogs sell for $1500 and up, they usually have small litters and the owners of the female have the most costs in the pregnancy so that is why the stud fee is low compared to the price of the dogs.

Unless you have reputable breeders asking to breed to your dog (which I doubt is the case since you have no clue what a normal stud fee is), he comes from top champion bloodlines and has been health tested I suggest getting him neutered.

Q: Where can i find English Bulldogs for less money?
English Bulldogs are very expansive (about $2000). I have looked every where for a cheep English bulldog. The pet store next to me sells the dog for $1800. So they must get it cheaper then that. I have called every where and can not find even one cheaper then that. Does anyone know where I can find one less expansive?

A: Like you’ve already been told, this is an incredibly expensive breed. If you can’t pay the money, you also can’t afford the vet bills that go with the breed.

And those dogs you’ve seen in pet stores come from puppy mills! Do you seriously not have any idea of the kind of problems you’d be asking for if you choose to support puppy mills? This is a breed with a whole bunch of health problems. Now imagine buying a bulldog puppy bred in a puppy mill with absolutely no health testing, and no decent care.

If you won’t pay a reputable breeder, then either check with shelters, or bulldog rescue and take your chances on health problems.

Q: How do you get Bulldogs to mate?
I have a pair of English bulldogs both are two years old. The female is in heat but they will not mate. Is there anything I can do to get the love connection going? Yes, one is a male.

A: One of the reasons that English bulldogs are so expensive to buy, is the expense put into breeding them..they usually have to be aided by a vet or artificially inseminated.. for that, take both dogs to the vet..Here, it is an initial cost of $80, usually repeated..You also need to know that they must have ultrasound performed at 55 days after breeding, to see if by some odd chance she can whelp naturally, as nearly all English bulldogs are delivered by C-section, at a cost of around $1200…Otherwise, mom and pups willl be lost…C-section is risky too, as the bulldog physiology makes all surgeries a higher risk..

Q: Who here knows the difference between American Bulldogs, and English Bulldogs?
I have seen so many people mistake American Bulldogs, for the very common English Bulldog. And you have no idea how much that pisses me off. So, who can tell me what an English Bulldog is? And who can tell me what an American Bulldog is?
I know people can tell the difference when they look at pictures. But… alot of times I have said something about an American Bulldog, and people were like “No, Bulldogs are the short stocky ones, with crooked and short legs.” and that really got me going.

A: An English Bulldog is of medium size and smooth, short coat, with heavy, thick-set, low-swung body, massive short-faced head, wide shoulders and sturdy limbs. A mature male should be around 50lbs, and a female around 40lbs. This is what the AKC calls a “Standard Bulldog,” as the AKC does not even recognize American Bulldogs.

An American Bulldog is a much larger dog, weighing in at around 60-80lbs for males, and 50-75lbs for females. They are tall, and look much like large Boxers, with short faces and a sturdy body.

There is another type, the French Bulldog, which smaller than the English (or Standard) Bulldog, weighing in at under 30lbs. This breed has a large, “square” head, and upward standing, triangular ears.

Again, the whole reason for the mixup, and for people assuming that when you say “Bulldog” you are speaking of an English Bulldog, is because the English Bulldog is considered the “Standard” for Bulldogs, and many people are confused as to what an American Bulldog actually is, because they are not recognized by the AKC.

Q: What makes bulldogs so expensive and appealing?
I have one of my own and I have my own reasons, but I’d like to know other people’s opinions about why bulldogs are so appealing to people and why they would be willing to spend thousands of dollars on them (like me). I’m writing a speech on bulldogs, believe it or not, and just wanna see some more input. Thanks!
Nancy, wtf are you talking about?!

A: They’re a unique looking breed, and very sweet. People will spend tons of money to get what they want, and if they want a bulldog, they’ll pay. Some would argue that they’re “so ugly they’re cute,” but they’re just good dogs, if you ask me. :)

Q: Is a lump on my Bulldogs back cause for concern?
Today I noticed a bump on my bulldogs back (right along his spine). It was not there the previous day. He plays a lot with my girlfriends jack russels, and they run into many things in the yard. He also (last tuesday) got his last set of shots (about 5 total) which were in the area of the bump. It does not seem to bother him when you touch it, and his behavior has not been altered. I am planning on contacting the vet tomorrow, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

A: If the bump is where he got his shot, that’s what its from. Some dogs react by getting a knot. It should disappear within the next 5 – 7 days. If he’s acting normal, its nothing to worry about.

Q: Where can I order personal checks with Old English Bulldogs on them?
Looking to order checks with bulldogs on them, prefer puppies but any will do. LInks please, thanks.

Q: We took our bulldogs to the vet to be artif inseminated. Ejaculation only produced a few drops? Why?
We took our bulldogs tot he vet to be artificially inseminated. Ejaculation only produced a few drops. Why is this? Are we supposed to keep them apart for a while before going back to the vet? Very confused and frusturated because this process is not cheap.

A: You should have discussed it with the vet while you were there. Didn’t he mention anything when you were collecting ?

He wants to keep them apart so that it builds up some frustration on the male’s part so he is ready .. You do any research to make sure you are getting the right people to help you with the AI?

Q: Who was the greater Tag Team: The Hart Foundation or The British Bulldogs?
In your opinion, who was the overall better tag team and why: The Hart Foundation or The British Bulldogs?

Giving a detailed explanation will give you a better chance of getting Best Answer.

(Optional) BQ: For those who read wrestling books, what is the best one you’ve ever read and why?

A: I really enjoy this question, I am currently reading Bret Harts book and I hear a lot about these guys.

I think the Hart Foundation is better. They were about the same wrestling talent wise but the Hart foundation had MUCH better mic skills. Bret and Jim could hold their own on the mic well jimmy did a lot, but Davey and Dynamite Kid relied mostly on their manager.

Also, the Harts had power and speed. Dynamite and Davey mostly flew well Jim provided power for the Hart Foundation. A GREAT tag team is one with both, something the bulldogs did’nt have.

Overall these are two of the greatest tag teams of all time.

BQ: I love reading wrestling books. I am currently reading Brets book. My favorite is probably Eric Bishoffs book. I loved reading about WCW, I liked how he focused on the company, and not his own life.

Edit: To first answer. That was not the question. Get out of this section if you’re just going to change the subject.

Q: How do I keep my 2 male bulldogs from fighting?
One of my bulldogs is 80 lbs & one is 50 lbs. The 80 lb one is the fight starter and much stronger than the other. They are really hurting eachother, like serious dog fights. We cannot even have them out together when we have company because they get excited and fight every time. They dont mean to hurt people but we are always getting clawed or bitten by accident. When they arent fighting they are loving on eachother. I dont want to get rid of either of them but if they dont stop fighting we are going to have to get rid of one of them. Any help please….
THEY ARE BOTH NEUTERED, A LITTLE OVER A YEAR OLD AND ONLY ABOUT A MONTH APART IN AGE.
zackery_2008 if you will read in the all caps I wrote “THEY ARE BOTH NEUTERED”
thanks everyone for your answers.

A: Are they neutered! Thats the main thing to consider here. If they’re not neutered, it needs to be done now. If they are neutered, you have to teach them to get along. Establish the word “NO” with them. Once that word is established for anything that they do wrong, youre on the right track. Next when they fight, give them time outs, and again use the word no. They wont like a) being separated and b) hearing your voice reach the tone that it does….im sure this will help, just be patient. I wish you luck ok?
