Q: Is the DRNA(Dachshund Rescue of North America) a good organization?
I have to find a new home for my puppy and I am considering surrendering him to the DRNA, are they a good organization?

Don’t ask me why!
Since when does PETA kill animals? Aren’t they the ones who hate to see people wear fur beccause they know an animal was killed to make the clothing?

A: DRNA is likely associated with the Parent Club for Daschunds in the US
I know of no rescue organization that is not run by caring people tho at times they are burned out and frustrated from trying to do a very hard volunteer job

PETA is a radical organization that ultimately would like to make it such that no animals can be owned as pets or for food production and they have killed large numbers of animals because they do not believe that they should be “owned”
PETA lets animals out of crates that are at dog show – have released animals housed in school etc.

Q: Should I adopt a dog from the pound or get a dachshund from a rescue?
I can’t decide. I really love dachshunds but I also want to save a life.

A: I would rather save a life so adopt a dog from the pound, so that some dog in the pound can enjoy the rest of it’s life. So my advice is, Adopt A Dog From The Pound.

Q: dachshund rescue quick help or pound?
House trained dog left at church 3 days in rain before we could pick him up. Can some one in Atlanta you help me? Black with white chest, grizlbr at yahoo
Got to Animal control informed Old neutered male. So they will take care of him. Would like to tie who ever put this dog out . to a pole in the rain for 3 days. Good funny dog: spray him with anything and he would carpet surf for an hour.

A: I can post your help to a rescue forum, Are you talking about Atlanta GA?? if so the Atlanta Humane society is no kill and willingly takes in small dogs and they are adopted quick. You can also look on petfinder.com, search for Rescues in Atlanta and call them to see if they can help

Q: Is anyone in the Tampa, Florida interested in being a foster home for dachshund?
We are a dachshund rescue. We need foster homes for the dachshund we take in. Our rescue pays for the dachsie’s vetting and medication, you provide the home and the food.
You assess the dachsie’s personality and what it needs in a forever home. When the right home applies, you have the final say in whether your foster dachsie goes to them.
It is wonderfully rewarding to help an abandoned or turned in dachshund get a new lease on life, you will be amazed at how much satisfaction and love you get from these little fosters.
Think about it, if you have room in your home and heart for a homeless dachshund, temporarily, until a forever home can be found, please let me know.

Thanks.

A: Put an add up on Petfinder. It works really well.

Q: Should I Sell my Homemade Jelly, and donate all the proceeds to a dachshund rescue?
Every year I make homemade jelly/jam and usually just make it for my family, friends, and neighbors. This year I was thinking of selling it, and then donating all the proceeds to a dachshund rescue. No one has ever gotten sick off my jelly, and has always commented on how good it is, but I don’t want to get sued from someone who claims they got sick of it. We do not have a license or anything, but have been making jelly for a good many years. Should I get a license? If so, How would I go about getting one? Approximately how much does it cost, if any?
I don’t want to get sued because people claimed they got sick from eating it…not got tired of it lol

A: They don’t have a license when they have fund raising bake sales at schools and churches, do they? If you have a way of marketing it and people who are willing to purchase, sounds like you have a good plan. You could start with your family and friends and ask them to make a small donation for it, and tell them where the proceeds will be going.

Q: I need a Dachshund Rescue in or near Ohio….?

Q: dachshund rescue help please?
there’s a malnourished pair of doxies hanging around that i need help for. unfortunately, they rent my landlords house at the other end of the street. they are severely malnourished, covered in fleas/ticks. if i were to take them it wouldn’t take long for the “owners” to figure out where they are. and there’s no Animal Control here. when i’ve complained to the PD about mistreatment and abuse, their response has been, “a dog is a mans property to do what he wants with”.
i need to know if there’s any dachshund rescues in the mid-TN area that could take these dogs RIGHT AWAY.
they hang out on the side of the highway.
i’m not set up for little dogs. i have NO kennel space anywhere.
and for those of you that know about the coon hound Molly, i found out she came from the same home!
i’ve tried to enlist the aid of nearby shelters and the TN Humane Society in the past and got ZERO help. just a form letter saying, “thank you for your concern”.
so does anyone know where i can find some RELIABLE help for these 2 little dogs?
thanks Nekai. the link won’t follow through (it brings me to the home page, then i get ERROR), but i left a message on the phone and i’ll e mail the other.

A: A star for you, sweetie.

Have you searched this site? http://www.pgaa.com/Tennessee.html

I’ll add as I go, I’ve got about 10 more minutes here so I’ll see what I can do!

Keep in mind some rescues are not listed, but are forwarded to through word-of-mouth. Looks like a non breed specific rescue might be the way to go for starters.

ADD: Breed specific! Dachsund

ADDII: There may be a coordinator in your area, or surrounding area here: http://www.drna.org/

ADDIII: This may lead you in a promising direction, you can also post on the boards: http://dachshund-rescue.org/index.php

ADDIV: Ok, this is it for now, this could help if you find resuce and need transport, or they could lead you in a direction to help: http://www.doxie.org/

Q: Name suggestions for Dachshund rescue?
I’ve been in all-breed and purebred rescue for about 10 years. A friend of mine is wanting to start a doxie rescue in Oklahoma City, but we don’t know what to name it! Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance…

A: The Oklahoma City Dachshund Rescue (OCDR)

Dachshund Rescue of Oklahoma City (DROC)

Q: does anyone know a dachshund puppy rescue site?
i just want a puppy but i also want to rescue so i was just wondering if anyone knows a good site

A: Petfinder.com is good, but dachshund rescues do sometimes have puppies come in – or pregnant females who have the pups soon.

Do a search for “dachshund rescues” – but be aware that a grown dachshund, already spayed or neutered, socialized, and with a known temperament, is a much better idea than a puppy.

Q: how to have dachshund race for animal rescue. help!?
i would like to try to put a dachshund race together to help support our animal rescue league. has any one out there put one together or can give me good advice?

A: dog racing is cruel.. try a diffrent apporach fo fund raising

Q: Has anyone adopted through DRNA (Dachshund Rescue of North America)?
My family and I have been looking for a companion for our current dachshund and ourselves for the past 6 months. We came across DRNA and found multiple dachshunds for adoption in North Carolina. We filled out the application about two weeks ago and read the adoption process. It said that they will conduct reference checks and vet checks and then contact us for a home visit. They haven’t contacted us yet, but the dog that we sent the application in for now says “Adoption in Progress” as of last week and it didn’t say that about 2 weeks before we sent in the application. We don’t know if this is us or not but if anyone has adopted a dachsie from DRNA, can you tell us about how long it usually takes for someone to get in contact with us. Thank you

A: DRNA is a great group! I suggest you contact them to find out how long it will take and if it is you in the process of adopting that dog. I’m not realllllly sure anyone on yahoo answers would know the answer to that question.

Researching your background takes time. The more applicants, the more time it will take. Give them a call and ask more questions. I know they will be glad to help you!

Q: What type of a dog is a dachshund?
My husband and I are thinking about adopting a rescue dachshund this spring. He and I work 8 hours a day, will a dachsund be destructive while we are gone? What is their overall temperment?

A: http://www.dachshund-dca.org/faq.html

Q: Wheres a good place to buy a dachshund?
Websites or local dachshund rescue I live around Milwaukee, WI. I thought there was a dachshund rescue in milwaukee but I can’t find it. Thanks

A: This is the link to petfinder.coms search results for dachshunds in your area. Some are mixes some are not.

You can also go through the AKC page to find reputable breeders if rescuing isn’t for you.

Q: How often should I feed a 1 year old dachshund? What is the food best for their health? Should I mix dry/wet?
I want to rescue a dachshund. I had one as a child but my parents helped me out. Just need a little help with how to feed it in the healthiest possible way. I’m on somewhat of a budget but tell me what’s best. Thanks!

A: Feeding twice a day is usually recommended but once a day is fine too. I would only feed dry. Wet food is frankly a waste of money as it is mostly just water. Dry food is also better for your dog’s dental hygiene.

Q: How do you train a grown dachshund that was abused before you got them?
I adopted a dachshund from a rescue and he has been abused in the past you can just tell. I was told he was house trained and for the most part he is. But he is developing a habit of going in my house. I take him out the same time everyday and feed him the same time everyday. His routine is the same. He goes in the house about 15 min. before he is scheduled to go out. What can I do to train him better?

A: If he always goes fifteen minutes before your scheduled time change your schedule. Maybe he can’t wait as long as you expect him to. If you can’t do that then try crate training, most dogs will not soil where they sleep. Also, a trip to the vet might be in order. He could have a bladder or kidney infection that is causing him to lose control.
