Q: How do they call Dachshund dogs in Hebrew?
I would like to know how they call Dachshund dogs in Hebrew. I am in Israel and would like to buy one.

Q: How do you feel about Dachshund dogs?
I think Dachshunds are so cute!!! They look like little hotdogs walking through the street. The other day I saw one and fell in love with it! But I would never buy one. I like dogs with fur. And the long haired dachshunds just creep me out. How do you feel about them?

A: My grandma has 4 so naturaly i Love them. They are the most friendly, gentle and beautiful dogs you can imagine. They are very smart too. They are minitures not standards.

Burtie= black and cream, really friendly , 4yrs old (oldest)
Oliver= Red, always rolling over for you to stroke him. 3yrs old.
Otto= Black and tan, loves people and playing football, 2yrs old
Hatty= only girl, short haired black and tan ,likes chewing on your ears, 1yr old.

Q: What category do the Dachshund dogs stand ? as far as the smartes dog and stuff like that?
iknow their orgins are from germany and their trained to chase down prey… but what else?

A: Dachshunds were bred to hunt and dig out badgers. Since they are of the hound group their noses are very keen on picking up scents. Their bodies were bred to be low to the ground to pick up scents, powerful front legs for digging, and a long body to wiggle down a burrow and to get out quickly.

The mini dachsunds were later bred to do the same with rabbits…

Q: Are Dachshund dogs easy to take care of?
I want one in few years but i would like to get ready for the dog too… i have had dogs in the past so it wont be my first time having a dog.

A: They are very good dogs and the mistake most people make is feeding them once a day along with feeding them people food. Doing this will make them fat and when they get older they will have lower back problems and become paralyzed in the back legs.

To ensure they live a long life I can tell you from experience to leave food in their food bowl 24/7. Doing this will let the dog know anytime they get hungry they can eat, hence, your dog will never become fat and stay in great shape.

Q: How can I make my miniature dachshund adjust to being around bigger dogs?
In a few months we are moving in with my aunt. They have 2 German Shepherds and 3 Labs.
She is a miniature dachshund and I am worried she will be intimidated by the bigger ones.
Because the family lives on a farm the big dogs play rough and chase each other a lot and I am just worried about her.
Any tips on helping her adjust from a grassy subdivision to a dirt farm with 5 dogs?

A: You are worried because your dachshund is not socialized. If you had enrolled in a good obedience class they would have taught you how to socialize, how to train, and how to correct bad behavior. You really need this education to learn about dog behavior. You are not going to learn much from strangers, who have never observed your dog’s behavior.

Q: How can I stop my dachshund from pulling out the hair of other dogs?
I have a six-year-old dachshund who constantly pulls the hair out of our 2 other dogs. Both dogs are basically bald on their backs, and we want this behavior to stop. They have chewed themselves in the past, but never to this extent.

A: Why have you allowed his ears to get to the point where they are dripping blood? I can only imagine the pain your poor dog is in! Get off your computer, find and Emergency Vet and take him in NOW! We are not vets and cannot diagnose your dog over the Internet. If you don’t want your dog to lose it’s hearing, then quit wasting time and Go! His ears aren’t healing because he hasn’t seen a vet to have the problem properly diagnosed and treated!

Q: Is there any Dachshund stud dogs in the south west?
Ive looked on websites but there’s not much luck.

A: If you had properly shown your dog and made certain he is worth breeding, you would not need to ask on here how to be just another back yard breeder.

Our dachshund rescue (and every other one I know of) is FULL TO THE GILLS with dachshunds needing new homes, anybody breeding more is disgusting -absolutely adding to the horrific problem of dachshunds needing homes.

Don’t do this — just don’t. Get your dog spayed, there are more honorable ways to make a few bucks than off the suffering of animals.

Can someone please tell me if they know of any dachshund clubs that will allow you to show a neutered or spayed dog with them?

A: You can with the AKC, but not in conformation, all other events are allowed though.

Q: our dachshund freaks out when it sees other dogs? what can we do?
I know dachshunds are barkers, but our mini dachshund (1 year and a few months old) loves certain dogs and certain friends of ours. When she sees dogs that she does not know or people that she does not know, she absolutely freaks out and starts barking and yelping…it almost sounds like she is being attacked and hurt. Any dachshund owners experience this as well??? any advice? it is really embarassing and we need to get her to stop. thanks.

A: Find a local dog obedience trainer who has group classes. Explain your situation, and maybe he can help you. Our local guy has doggy daycare and I’m sure he would let you have some one on one lessons there while all the dogs are there, too. Your dog needs socialized.

Q: Do Dachshund Lhasa Apso dogs have any physical problems when they get older?

A: since it’s a mix, any thing is possible…dachshunds are prone to back problems, and mixing that with a breed that has breathing problems can be cause for concern..

Q: Traits and Behaviors of Jack Russel/Dachshund Dogs
We just saw some new born Jack Russel/Dachshund Puppies we are going back to look in a couple of weeks . Any one Know about the combination of the 2 breeds together? I think they are both nice dogs but not sure what to expect then.

A: They are both kinda high-strung.Just be sure you can give a lot of exercise to it.If you are gone most of the day I wouldn’t recommend it.
I have two Jack Russells and they need space to run and good exercise.If you fail then you may suffer the destructive consequences.

Q: Anyone know the temperament of a mini dachshund? Are they good dogs?
I have a Basset and want another dog. I heard the long-haired Dachshunds are nicer. Is this true? I also heard that the dapple colored ones have a lot of health problems? why?

A: I’ve been around several of them. And dogsat one for a week. I think they’re great. Like most toy breeds, they’re a little neurotic & nervous, but overall really cool.
