Q: How are yellow lab/golden retriever mix dogs as pets?
I’m thinking about getting this yellow lab/golden retriever mix, but my mom isn’t fully convinced yet. The one I want is 3 years old and 88 pounds. She is worried about his size. He is good on a leash and is good with cats and dogs and small children. He is obedience and house trained. She is worried about money, and his size. What do you guys think? Also, how are lab/golden mixes as pets?
A: Considering the fact that this dog already has obedience and is house trained it is an excellent choice. As a professional dog trainer I have trained many of these breeds and find them to be awesome family dogs.
As far as cost and size go, you may have to feed a bit more than a small dog, but you’ll find if you buy a quality dog food, which you should for any size dog the amount of food you feed is not excessive. For instance a dog that size would most likely need 1.5 to 2 cups twice a day.
Here is an article on pet food with suggestions to add some real food you already eat which can also keep your dog food costs down: http://www.dogtrainingsandiego.com/2010/05/dog-food-same-cheeseburger-everyday/
Vet costs: Really the cost for treatment of a large dog versus a small dog is the same.
I would consider temperament and training as the key factor in deciding to get this dog. Sounds as though this dog has a thumbs up on both. I would recommend this dog as a good choice.

Q: How much exercise is good for my yellow lab/golden retriever mix?
We have a 13 month old yellow lab/golden retriever mix. We let her go where ever she wants to go in the house and our yard is pretty big. How much exercise should she get in terms of fetching in our yard and going for a walk? Please be specific. Also, she is not fat. I just wanted to make sure she is as healthy as she can be.
Thanks!
A: Since golden retrievers are not fully grown until they are a year and a half, do not run with them or jog with them. As far as exercise, I would do it in 30 min to 1 hour increments up to twice a day.
I often take my dog on a long walk then let her fetch her tennis ball until she lays down, telling me “i’m through mom!”
Look at the dog and its symptoms: are they lagging behind on walks, panting profusely or becoming unwilling to play/walk? Chances are, your dog will let you know when he/she has had enough. On hot days be sure to take the dog in the mornings and evenings for exercise, as they can overheat quickly.
Good luck!
Q: What would a Great Dane/Golden Retriever mix look like?
What would a Great Dane/Golden Retriever mix look like? Both of the parents are full bread. The father is a blue Great Dane while the mother is a medium color Golden Retriever.
A: Mutts.
Shelter Dogs.
Euthanasia Bait.
Take your pick.
Just because two of your dogs are cute separate does not mean they’ll breed cute puppies. Get them fixed. If its too late, line up homes NOW THEN get them fixed, or abort the puppies through your local vet.

Q: Why is my Chocolate Lab/Golden Retriever mix losing so much hair?
I have a 10 month old Chocolate Lab/Golden Retriever mix. For a week now he’s been losing so much hair. I basically have to vacuum/sweep every few hours. He’s an inside dog so it’s getting very annoying because I’m a neat freak. Having dog hair all over is getting annoying. Anyone know if this is normal? Also, any at home remedies?
A: he may have long hair so it will fall out my lab is the same
Q: is there such thing as a toy poodle and golden retriever mix?
i know there is a goldendoodle, which is a golden retriever and poodle, but is there a toy poodle/golden retriever mix? so it would be small?
A: Yep…their called mutts, but their given the fancy goldendoodle name to make them sound more desireable
There are plenty of mutts..in shelters needing homes. Labrador/ Poodle mixes are just like anyother mutt found in a shelter.
Want a mutt, adopt there are plenty.

Q: How big will a Golden Retriever/English Pointer mix get?
Looking at getting a Golden Retriever mixed with an English Pointer, and am wondering if anybody has one and knows how big they typically get. The dog is male and is roughly 35 pounds at 5 months.
A: There is absolutely no way of telling since it’s a mix. You can’t look at either breed standard – It could be more like a Golden, more like a Pointer, or somewhere in-between.
Q: What is a goldendoodle and golden retriever mix classified as?
I recently bought a puppy who’s parents are a F1 Goldendoodle and a Golden Retriever. Would this still be classified as a Goldendoodle? I’ve never heard of a goldendoodle bred this way. Has anyone had any experience of a similar breed? Our puppy is great so far, and just wanted more information.
A: Your dog is a mix breed a mutt!!! I have not had a dog like this but most mix dogs are great just like you said your dog is….
Q: what size would a german shepherd golden retriever mix?
i have 2 puppies they are brothers. one was the first born of the litter the other one was the last born of a litter of 8. they are german shepherd mixed with golden retriever or the other way around ( idk if it makes a difference) idk wat parent was wat meaning was male german shepherd or golden retriever. ( idk if that made any sense. Im wondering what size they’ll be when they’re adults. btw they are both 4 months old.
A: Mutts don’t have standards.
NOTHING can be predicted about mongrels.
Q: Whats the differerence between a golden retriever and a golden retriever shepard mix?
I am getting a dog soon and I want a golden retriever but there is a dog available but is a golden retriever/shepard mix. whats the difference between a golden retriever and a golden retriever/ shepard mix?
A: all the answers here are pretty much correct. i have 3 golden retrievers and 2 golden retriever /german shepherd mixed. i assume you are talking about getting one from a shelter?? sometimes they will say it is a mix of shep/golden and they are not. the shelters are like anyone else, they guess at the breeds mixed in these dog. so if you are really wanting a golden i would hold out for the golden. all of my dogs are laid back except one of the mixes,he is very protective of me, so much so that i have to put him in another room if anyone comes to the door. i know that is the shepherd in him. most of the shep/retriever mixes look more shepherds than retrievers.
Q: I have a Chow Golden Retriever mix is it true?
that chows have a tendency to turn agressive? I know the golden retriever is a gentle dog but what of the chow? My dog Abby is 91/2 yrs old we’ve had her since she was 6 weeks old and she’s been spayed since she was 5months old I have noticed that with the older she gets the more agrresive she is becoming. She hasen’t hurt anyone yet but I don’t want it to come to that before I do something? She has never had any behavoir problems before.
A: Chows are a breed that can be kind of iffy. Almost like pits. I had a chow once that was the most sweet and adorable thing. But then again. Clients that come to us can say that their dog is good at home, but once we go to open that cage…they come lunging out teeth barin. It all depends on the disposition of the parents. She’s getting older, so she’s going to get a little fussy in her old age. The first dog that I was ever bitten by was a chow.
Q: a good name for a golden retriever or a black lab mix?
im either getting this really cute black lab puppy mix or a golden retriever mix. what would be some cute names? please dont give any names like “air buddy”, or “mudbud”, or “budda”, or “budderball” or, “rose bud” or anything like that! thanx!
oh and there both girls!
A: The best dog name I ever heard – one of them – was Chili, who is a black lab puppy. Name the dog after a song you like, maybe, or a state (Dakota is the most popular – but Indiana always has movies). There are also books of pet names. Perhaps a name that conveys something you like or a value you have, like Victoria for victory.
Good luck with your new dog!!!
Q: WHAT DO YOU CALL PUPPIES THAT ARE BEAGLE/ GOLDEN RETRIEVER MIX? What are signs that labor is near?
My retriever is pregnant by my beagle. What wouldyou call that mix. Also what are signs of labor beginning? Her nipples are swollen and full and shes getting lazy.
A: They are called MUTTS!!!
Reserch prior to breeding would have been the responsible thing to do. Anyhow here is a website full of info: http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/whelping.html
Q: what is a border collie/golden retriever mix like?
my family is looking for a new dog, and we found some border collie/ golden retriever mix puppies, but i have no clue what this dogs will be like. i dont want anything to high energy, something that can be trained off leash, and something that isnt protective of food/toys, what kind of dog will this be?
thanks guys
A: Well both breeds are very intelligent and training will be a breeze. Both are good-natured and are not naturally aggressive, in fact are probably a few of the least aggressive dogs out there. However, they will probably need tons of exercise and will have a lots of energy.
Q: How much food should I feed my female 3 month old golden retriever lab mix puppy? How often?
I just got a female golden retriever lab mix puppy and she’s 3 months old. I’m not sure how much to feed her. I am currently giving her 1/2 a cup at 7:00am, 3:00pm, and 9:00pm. What would you suggest? Also, at what age do I switch her to adult food?
A: The suggestion is 1/2 cup per 5 pounds of body weight per day up to 3 months. At three months the amount drops a little. If she weighs 20 pounds, she should have closer to 3 cups a day.
Most bagged puppy kibble suggests how much you should feed.
Q: How long before a lab puppy is full grown? How many lbs. will a female golden retriever/ lab mix get?
I have a female golden retriever/ lab mix that is only 4 months old but I need to get her a service vest. I don’t know what size to get her. The sizes go by how many inches the dog’s girth is.
A: it depends on the dogs parents and usually it takes about 2 years b fore you can really tell how big your dog is going to get a lab usually grows fastest in the 6-12 months then the rest is filling out and growing into the huge paws they get when still a puppy. so it all depends so hope i helped
