Q: what characteristics does a teacup poodle have?
i’m planning on buying a teacup poodle down the road, most likely starting out as a puppy.
but i wanted to know if this is a bad choice, i don’t want a loud obnoxious, high strung dog. are teacup poodles generally like that?
and if so, what breed of toy dogs would be the best to fit under the down to earth category?
A: From the Poodle Club of America
Poodles come in Three Sizes or Varieties
Those interested in the Poodle should be aware there are three varieties of Poodles; Toy Poodles, Miniature Poodles, and Standard Poodles. There is no officially recognized Poodle variety such as a “royal” Standard, a “tea cup” Toy or a “pocket” or “tiny” Toy Poodle. These are all just marketing terminologies to facilitate the sale of animals that are in reality just dramatically over or under in size from the norm.
Toy Poodle – The Toy Poodle is the smallest of the three varieties of Poodle. For the conformation show ring the Toy Poodle should be no larger than 10” high at the shoulder. This more diminutive variety of Poodle is particularly well suited to apartment life or as a traveling companion for retired people.
“Teacup” or “Pocket” Poodles and “Royal Standard” Poodles
Responsible Poodle Breeders do not promote the sale of “teacup”, “pocket” or “royal standard” Poodle puppies. This is a marketing ploy to sell the Poodle puppies for increased prices. Prospective Poodle puppy buyers interested in a small Toy Poodle or a large Standard Poodle can make their preferences known to their Poodle breeder. Most responsible Toy Poodle and Standard Poodle breeders are familiar enough with their family of dogs to provide information about size and other attributes.
Q: Is it recommended to spay a small teacup poodle?
My teacup is 3lbs, very tiny, very fragile. I’m not sure whether or not I should spay her, she won’t be used for breeding and she isn’t around boys. I know spaying them allows them to live longer, but I’m concerned about the risks of anesthesia because she is so small. I have a toy poodle we spayed when she was about two years old, but she weighs 11lbs. Anyone know?
A: She is ssooo small that if she ever gets pregnant, the risk of her dying is very great. I know you’ll watch her but there are MANY ppl on here that this has happened to and don’t think it can’t happen to u. Secondly, if she gets a cancer of the reproductive organs, she doesn’t have enough body mass to sustain her for a long period of time while in treatment. Please go to your vet and talk to them about spaying. The best way is with a laser (no bleeding and less discomfort) and using reversible gas such as isofluorine or sevo. She’s your baby and you want only the best for her right?!
Q: Where can I adopt a teacup poodle ?
I am looking to adopt a teacup poodle in the bay area, california. I have tried google, but i can’t seem to find one at a reasonable price and most of them are for sale.
Thanks in advance.
A: no where. the poodle does NOT come in a “teacup” size. try again…
Q: Are there any teacup poodle breeders in Indiana?
I am looking for a teacup poodle breeder near me i live in Valparaiso and looking to get a god in april does anyone know where i can find one?
A: There is no such thing as a “teacup” poodle (or any other breed for that matter. Teacup is a marketing term used by unethical breeders to describe dogs bred to be extremely small with no regard to the overall health of the animal. These are the types of breeders you should avoid at all costs.
I would suggest that before you actively try to find a dog, you take the time to edcuate yourself on the breed first. It will help you in the long run, both during your search for a dog and after you have gotten one.
Q: does anyone know where i can get a teacup poodle in the uk?
Im looking for a teacup poodle in the UK in South Wales.
I know people may comment and say there are no such thing but there are so if your going to say that dont comment.
But if any of you are breeders in the UK of teacup poodles or know of anyone please let me know.
A: Yes. I know of a few places, but none that I’d recommend.
Essentially, you can get a “teacup” poodle from any breeder that’s more interested in scamming people out of money than in the welfare of the animals they produce. Breeding for progressively smaller at the expense of health is not something I’d want anybody to aspire to, less still reward with cash.
There IS however, such thing as a “Toy Poodle”. Don’t worry – it is a real dog!! The word “Toy” just refers to the size (as opposed to miniature poodles and standard poodles).
Toy poodles are under 28cm at the shoulder. No minimum size is stated in the breed standard. You should choose a healthy one of those if that’s what you are interested in (the smallest might not be the healthiest).

The link above shows the breed standard, but also gives contact details for the breed clubs who should be able to advise you.
If you are going to a breeder, I’d recommend the breed clubs. This is quite an old article, but the problems are still rife:

Q: Does anyone know where i can buy a teacup toy poodle?
Im looking for a teacup toy poodle puppy. I’ve searched like crazy on the internet and i cant find just a white teacup toy poodle puppy. Does anyone know where i can find one? For maybe around $600 or less? Im looking for an honest seller if anyone could find one that would be great. Thank you and God bless you!
I know there is no such thing as a teacup breed. But i do know that sellers use that name for puppies tinnier than a toy size and some breeders tell you that a teacup is just a smaller toy poodle and there is no suck thing as a teacup breed. My mom use to have one so im trying to make sure i dont get a runt i wouldnt buy a little sickly dog thats cruel. So i look for breeders or sellers that tell me the truth about what a teacup dog really is and i wanna make sure i can find a seller i can keep in contact with in case i get scammed and to help me keep my dog healthy. I understand that there is no teacup breed and i wouldnt want to hurt a litle puppy and it would break my heart too so i understand your concern and thank you for the facts.
A: You wont be finding an honest seller of any “Teacup” breed.. just get a regular sized poodle..
Q: is there are difference between and toy poodle and a teacup poodle?
I have seen both “toy” and “teacup” poodle being said, so, is there any differnce? if so, what is the difference? or is this dog just called both? I know there is a standard and miniature poodle but i was wondering about the toy/teacup
A: One exists(toy) & one doesn’t(teacup).
Q: What should I expect from my Teacup Poodle when I bring my twins home for the first time?
Well, my poodle is very spoiled right now and I’m scared of what will happen when I bring my twins home for the first time. Will she be aggresive towards them because they get all of my attention? How did your dog react?
A: just put the dog on the bed with the babies and hold the dog tight let her smell the twins be carefull though
worked with my dauschhound
Q: How do breeders know if it will be a teacup poodle when its 7 weeks old?
Im going to see a dog thats supposed to be a ‘tea cup’ poodle, it is small, only 4 ounches when it was born. I was wondering if he will stay as a toy and how will i know?
Thanks in advance!
A: teacup dogs are the runts in the litter. Thats honest to God what they are. Breeders just find the smallest, worst example of the breed, call it a teacup, and sit back and wait for the cash
just becasue someone sells a dog, and calls it a ‘teacup’ doesn’t mean they are right. Its a marketing ploy used by unscrupulous breeders to get morons to pay more. They are taking unhealthy, runts, breeding them, and then marketing them as teacups. Its not a recognized breed by any legit breed registry.
they are classified as toy poodles, becasue teacup is not recognized .
These dogs have a huge risk of major health problens, especially third and fourth generations. Responsible breeders would never breed a runt. Runt is a term for a smaller dog, that has not physically formed as it should have. People should not be trying to create these dogs, thats just cruel
Q: How to care for a teacup poodle dog ?
I want to get a tea cup poodle ( the smallest poodle there is). I have researched about them alot, and i do realise they are very fragile as they cant jump on and off furniture or climb up or down stairs. However, i wanted to know more, about what to do while they have to be left in the house alone ? Apprantely you have to put them in playpens :S How would i allow it to have space, without it being dangerous ? Please help me !!!!
A: You will need a lot of care and A LOT of money. The dog will most likely be unhealthy because it is a teacup dog, so be prepared to be seeing a lot of your vet
Q: where can i find a teacup poodle?
Me and my mom have been looking to buy a teacup poodle i have wanted a dog for a long time but my mom wants to spend somewhere around $400 and i wanted one for my 15th birthday is there anywhere i can find one in Indiana?
A: Repeat after me “there is no such thing as a teacup anything”, “there is no such thing as a teacup anything”, “there is no such thing as a teacup anything”, “there is no such thing as a teacup anything”, “there is no such thing as a teacup anything”, “there is no such thing as a teacup anything”, “there is no such thing as a teacup anything”, “there is no such thing as a teacup anything”, “there is no such thing as a teacup anything”.
Q: What’s the average age of a Teacup Poodle when they die?
I have a Poodle and I’m curious on how long they live to be. If you have one, how old is it now? And if you’ve had one, how old was it when it died? My friend had to put his dog down yesterday and it prompted me to start thinking of this.
A: 15?
my friends dog lived to be 22 =/ so sad
Q: How much should a 3lb teacup poodle be eating a day?
I feed my dog EVO twice a day. I give her 1/4 of the can of wet, and then sprinkle a few pinch fulls of the dry food. Sometimes she only eats in the morning, sometimes only at night, sometimes in the morning and night. Could I be over feeding her? How much should I be feeding her for the whole day?
*1/4 of the small can
A: 1/4 of the big can, or 1/4 of the small can? If it’s 1/4 of the large can, that sounds to me like it may be too much, Evo is a high-caloric density food, and you don’t need to feed much at all. Basically, use her weight as a guideline. If she’s pudgy, feed less. If she’s thin, feed more. If she’s not eating everything you put down for her and she’s thinner than you would like, try splitting it into 3 or 4 smaller meals. With a dog that size, they have a teeny tiny little stomach and may need more frequent, but much smaller, meals to meet their daily caloric needs.
Add: Then that’s probably a good starting point. As I said, use her weight as a guideline. You should be able to easily feel her ribs but not see them, same with the hip bones.
Q: I would like to buy a toy or teacup poodle. Are toy or miniature poodles smaller?
Also when I look at photos some of these have snouts with shorter hair and some have more rounder noses, with normal hair. Do you know what this difference is?
So the hair on the snout is just whether the owner decides to have it long or short?
A: Yes I know the difference, you don’t. Poodles only come in 3 sizes
Standards—– 15 inches and up in height, and 45-75 pounds in weight
Miniature—10 to 15 inches in height and weight between 10 and 18 pounds.
Toys— Under 1 inches in height and 6-9 pounds in weight.
If you get or have one smaller then a Toy you have the runt of the litter which usually don’t occur unless the parents are poorly bred dogs
The length of snout come with size of dog, and yes some do have shorter hair then others because they have been groomed. Poodles are LOW shedding dog and are NOT hypo-allergenic as there is no such dog. All dogs produce dander, saliva and grow some hair and those are main components for allergies.
But to answer your question a Toy is smaller then a mini
If you need more info please email me.
Q: How old is to old for a teacup poodle to have puppies?
my poodle is 9 years old and I need to know if that is to old to have puppies
A: yes and no. she’s too little to have the energy to push out 5 or 6(depending on how many she has) puppies. but if she is in good health it will be alright.
