Q: how much should shih tzu puppies cost without papers?
how much should shih tzu puppies cost without papers? The puppies I am planning on buying are $150 each. They are not from a breeder but both parents are shih tzu.
I checked at all the recuse places 1st and Im not buying a puppy from a puppymill. I do not support that.

Without Papers, you have absolutely no proof that the pups are actually purebred.

I am fostering a momma dog and her puppies. She is a shih tzu, but no idea what the dad was since she was found as a stray. I am trying to figure out if the puppies fur will stay short. How old are they when the fur gets longer and really fluffy? Right now they are about 4 weeks old and the fur is short and soft, maybe like a beagle.

A: they will look like fur balls in a couple of weeks, if they have their mamma’s genes. but as far as long hair, it may take a few years.

A: Shih Tzus are gentle, loyal, and proud. They appear arrogant, but are very friendly and affectionate. They love to play ball and will chase anything you throw for them. Shih Tzus are trusting, companionable, and get along with everyone, generally. They are lively, alert and energetic outside. They are very people oriented, vivacious and athletic. The Shih Tzu makes a very pleasing companion and will be obedient if trained…Daily grooming is essential for the Shih Tzu. Bathing needs to be done once a month. This breed also needs a clipping of the matting on the feet. They should be brushed daily in order to remove and prevent mats from forming in the fur. Minimal exercise is needed, but they will love to play outdoors.
Training: Shih Tzus may be obstinate but patience and consistency will help over come the problem and achieve a reasonable level of training. Puppies need basic training when they are young. They should turn out to be a moderately obedient pet if trained.

So, I am thinking about buying a Shih Tzu puppy which is 9 weeks old for $350 dollars. It is AKC registered. What I am wondering is if $350 is too much for a Shih Tzu or is that a deal? A: A pure bred Shih Tzu puppy for $350 is in my book a deal! Around where I live pure bred Shih Tzu puppies go for $600 for the males and like $700 for females! So that is def. a deal! Potty training any dog can be difficult, but Shih Tzus’ are usually very smart, so should be easy to train. With any puppy though they can be easily distracted. So make sure your puppy is eyes on you! Shih Tzu Dogs’ life span is about 15 years or more! So this is a dog that will be with you for a long time. Special needs for Shih Tzus’ are attention and grooming!! They need to be groomed about 4 times or more a week! It all depends though if you want your puppy to have long hair (like the ones in show) or if you want your puppy to have short hair! Either way they need to be groomed! Major health problems include allergies, cleft palate (defects to roof of mouth), eye problems, renel disease(kidney problems), and von Willebrand’s disease (mild blood clotting/blood disorder). Check the inside of your puppy’s mouthwhen you get it. If you see any defects it could be from pore breeding. This disease (as mentioned above) is cleft palate. Shih Tzu Dogs’ are cute and will be friends with you forever! Well I hope this information helps with your decision! And blessing to you and your new pup!!

Please respond only if you own a shih tzu or know of someone who has one. Thank you.

A: I have 6 shih-tzus (and they do need me to give them bats between groomings!) If your precious pup has dry, itchy skin, use oatmeal shampoo for dogs (found at your local pet store)and follow the directions on the bottle. If your baby has dry hair (as all shih-tzu’s do but some more than others): use YOUR conditioner on her/him after shampooing (I find good ‘ol Pantene works great!) It will make it easier to comb thru. If your Shih-Tzu has long hair (at one time mine did & it was dry and matted easily) I asked an owner at an actual dog show why her dog’s hair was so shiney…she says to use OIL in it (not too much) like a mineral oil. And it works. I even used a few spritzs of people anti-frizz/hair shine product I bought at Walgreens. It keeps it shiney and tangle-free longer. ps- conditioner for dogs is expensive and it sucks (on shih-tzus anyway) Hope this helps!

You can call the vets around you and get a good estimate. Some vets even have “immunization plans”. Whether they are good or not I cannot tell you.

Are you talking about how your dog will react?
it’ll cry and be sore for a bit but shouldnt be much more than that. My vet calls the next day to make sure my baby is fine.

Q: Whats the best way to stop Shih Tzu puppies getting thru fence?
I just install a wooden fence round by deck and part of my yard to contain my shih tzus. Problem is the spaces between the pickets are 4 inches and the puppies are only 14 weeks old and can fit thru them right now. Anyone have any suggestions for a quick, cheap, temporary fix ?

A: Orange construction/snow fencing. Very cheap, easy to put up (staple it to the wood) and remove when needed. It’s ugly, but it does come in other colors as well if you look hard enough.

I’ve used chicken wire but I’m concerned about its sharpness around small dogs’ eyes.
